Isaiah Oliver made a goal line stop on fourth down and Leonard Gutierrez intercepted a pass with 18 seconds left to help No. 12 Brophy secure a 28-14 upset victory on the road over No. 5 Avondale Westview (10-1) in the first round of the Division I playoffs Friday night.

Holding on to a 14-point lead in the fourth quarter, Oliver made the first big stop when he knocked down a Knights' pass at the goal line on fourth and nine to give the ball back to Brophy. Westview got the ball back shortly thereafter, driving to the Broncos 5-yard line before Gutierrez pick ended the game and put Brophy into the second round.

Both defenses played well in the first half, shutting each other out before Oliver scored on a 42-yard pass from Woodward to give the Broncos a 7-0 halftime lead.

Ryan Velez added to the Brophy lead with a 12-yard run in the third quarter to make the score 14-0. After Westview's Orlando Sabur caught a 15-yard touchdown to cut the lead to seven, Velez returned the kickoff 94 yards to give the Broncos a 21-7 lead that killed the Knights' momentum.

Velez would tack on his third touchdown of the evening on a 16-yard run late in the fourth and would finish the game with 185 yards on 20 carries.

Brophy (5-6) will travel to No. 4 Desert Ridge next Friday.
