Courtesy of Red Mountain boys tennis coach Terry Graves: What a match. It was unbelievable. Came down to 3 tie-breakers to decide it.
Cade Lortie Red Mts. Captain and best player took down Sam Wang in the third set tiebreak, 10-6.
Then David Wilding from Red MT. took out Hamilton's #5 player Alex Yuwan in the third set tiebreak 11-9.
Red Mountain was leading 4-2 going into doubles, we thought we had them, not too soon, the Huskies play some of the best doubles in the state, they have incredible volleys.
The Huskies took the #1 doubles 8-3, they also took a surprising #2 doubles with a 8-6 win, We thought that was ours for sure..... You never know in tennis (unless you are playing McEnroe or unfortunately, Brophy).
The match is now all tied up at 4-all. It comes down to #3 doubles, back and forth all the way, guys are having trouble holding serve. We are down 6-7, with Sam McCauley serving and he comes over on the changeover, and says hey coach what do you think about serving and volleying this serve game, I said sounds great, that is what you are supposed to do, try it, but be careful and play smart! He did it to perfection winning a love serve game to make it 7 all. Eventually, we go into tiebreaker to decide the match at 8 all. We win the tiebreak 7-1 and try not to get too excited, because we know we have to play them again next Thursday.
