History repeated itself Friday night as Paradise Valley fell to Phoenix Brophy, 17-7, in a 5A Desert Valley Region clash at Phoenix College. It was the 23rd time in 25 meetings between the schools that the Broncos have defeated the Trojans.
Brophy’s Michael Mattingly opened the scoring with a 15-yard touchdown run, and Matt Kelly booted a 23-yard field goal to give the Broncos (4-3, 3-1 Desert Valley) a 10-0 halftime lead.
Brophy increased its lead to 17-0 when Grant Petrowski hauled in a 22-yard scoring pass from Tyler Chick.
The Trojans (4-3, 1-2) tried to rally late, as Ryan Barela scored on a 1-yard touchdown plunge, but the Broncos were able to hold he ball the rest of the way.
