Notre Dame won the first two games of the Cleats tournament's playoff games on Wednesday at Gene Autry to advance to the semifinals.
In the first game, the Saints beat Chaparral, 4-1, behind a strong pitching performance by Austin Schnabel.
Schnabel struck out 11 Chaparral batters, allowed no earned runs, three hits and one walk over five innings. Jimmy Halloran put away the final six outs to record the save. The Saints got all the runs they needed in the second as Duncan Morfitt singled, Hunter Bross doubled, and then a series of ground balls allowed Devin Young, Jimmy DiTroia, and Kobie Foppe to each collect RBIs to take a 3-0 lead.
The second game required a come-from-behind effort from the Saints as they beat Desert Mountain, 6-4. The Saints grabbed the lead in the seventh with three runs. Cooper Samples singled, followed by an RBI double by Devon DeRaad, then RBI singles by Nick Affronti and Jeremy Horgan gave the Saints the lead for good. Affronti had three RBIs and Kobie Foppe added 2 hits for Notre Dame. Jeremy Horgan recorded the win with four shutout innings.

Basha 7, Poston Butte 2: Playing without its No. 3 singles player, Basha was still able to win against Poston Butte in convincing fashion. In order to give some of our developing players more experience, the Bears bumped out their No. 3 doubles and moved them up to play No. 1, and moved around a couple other players in singles and doubles. No. 1 Rahgan Jensen earned a solid victory in singles, then paired with Katie Mortensen, normally on JV, to win in doubles as well. Both Rahgan and Jewel Brundrett are sophomores, and despite struggles against Hamilton this year, have played well this year.
