Pinnacle 79, Tolleson 39: Drew Bender had 23 points, Dorian Pickens had 16 points and Lee Andari had 16 points in the win for the Pioneers.
Girls Basketball
Xavier 68, Mesquite 57: Senior forward Katie Werner scored a career-high 33 points inside for the Gators. Ashley Orozco added 15 points and guard Ashley McGinn added 11 for Xavier. Mesquite was led by senior guard Ashley Alexander with 19 points. Cecily Wilson scored 16 and Rebecca Tilley added 12 points for the Wildcats.
Poston Butte 42, Higley 30: Sydnie Martindale led the Knights with 18 points, plus five rebounds, three assists and four steals. Kelsey Neves added nine rebounds and five steals for Higley.
Boys Soccer
Desert Vista 3, Mountain Pointe 0: The Thunder took the first round of the Ahwatukee rivalry, with Paine Ruhlman scoring twice for D.V. and Tate Schmidt adding the insurance goal late.
Mesa 2, Westwood 0: Noe Perales and Cristian Gonzalez scored goals for the Jackrabbits, while Matt Winkler earned the shutout in goal. Mesa is 1-0 and Westwood is 0-1-1 on the season.
Maryvale 4, Red Mountain 1: The Lions kept it close through intermission only trailing 1-0, but Maryvale scored three times in the second half to eventually pull away. Trey Brown scored the Lions' goal on a breakaway with an assist from Cody Lawrence to pull Red Mountain within 2-1, but Maryvale scored on a penalty kick for a two-goal cushion and added a fourth goal seven minutes later.
Arcadia 3, McClintock 1 (OT): Lorenzo Belassen scored twice for the Titans, including the eventual game-winner in overtime. Adrian Silva also scored for Arcadia.
