Prep highlights: Arcadia slugs 17 hits, plasters Flagstaff

Joey DeMichele and Adam Joffey led a 17-hit, 15-run outburst as Arcadia beat Flagstaff 15-1 Saturday in a five-inning 4A-II nonregion baseball game at Arcadia.

Both DeMichele and Joffey went 3-for-3 with two RBIs. DeMichele also scored three times.

Jack Regan pitched a complete game and got his second win of the season for the Titans (13-7), limiting the Eagles to just five hits.


Meredith Whitney dominated both sides of the plate in Desert Mountain’s 5-1 victory over host Glendale Cactus. Whitney fired a three-hitter, striking out 10. She went 3-for-4, including a 290-foot home run, which brings her homer total to eight on the season, one shy of the school record. ...

Despite turning a bases-loaded triple play in the second inning, Mesa lost to Cactus 4-2 in the Wolves Invitational at Horizon Sports Complex.

With the bases loaded, catcher Chelsea Jensen dove for a pop fly, got up and tagged the runner coming home, then threw it to third where Flora Barrientos came from left field to cover the base and make the third out.


Corona del Sol won the Tempe Union High School District City Championship at Phoenix Mountain Pointe High School with 57 points.

Desert Vista (36), Mountain Pointe (28), Marcos de Niza (7), Tempe High (2), and McClintock (1) also competed.

Daniel Larsson and Ben Duong from Corona del Sol finished in first place in their singles matches and then teamed up to finish in first place in their No. 3 doubles match with a 6-3, 4-6, 10-8 win over Beyong Kim and Brad Wong of Desert Vista.

The Aztecs had five first-place finishes. ...

In the Hamilton/Chandler Invitational, Hamilton teammates Nathan McDonald and Jeff Thomas both finished with two gold medals, winning both of their singles matches and teaming up to win the doubles.

Hamilton finished first overall followed by Mesquite, Chandler, Seton Catholic, Basha and Casa Grande.  


In the Tempe Union High School District City Championships at Phoenix Mountain Pointe High School, Corona del Sol finished first, tallying 56 points, Desert Vista followed with 37 and Mountain Pointe finished third with 33 points. ...

Mesquite finished in first place with 265 games won in the Chandler/Hamilton Invitational at Hamilton High School.

Hamilton finished in second with 242 games won followed by Seton Catholic (228), Chandler High (223), Basha (174) and Casa Grande (153).

After a first-place finish for both Erica Medlan and Jaclyn Daywalt of Mesquite in their respective singles bracket on Friday, the two teamed up for a win in No. 1 doubles.

Stephanie Yee and Kelly Raz of Hamilton finished in second place.

In No. 2 doubles, Nicole Duenas and Ariana Quyumi of Mesquite finished in first while Katie Eagan and Victoria Tucker of Hamilton finished second.

And in No. 3 doubles, Michelle Berkling and Nicki Chavez of Chandler High won with Krishna Narla and Natalie Vass from Hamilton finishing in second place.
