Prep report: Haasis sets assist mark for Sentinels

Jeff Haasis dished out 16 assists to set a Seton Catholic single-game record as the host Sentinels beat Saint Patrick's Prep from Australia 74-40 in a boys basketball game Thursday.

Haasis broke the school record of 12 set in 1998 by Mike Pintor. As a team, the Sentinels finished with 28 assists which also broke the old school mark of 18 set in 1998.

Mike Harty led all scorers with 20 points and also pulled down nine rebounds, and Haasis contributed 10 points for the Sentinels.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Martin Ort led Fountain Hills with 26 points as the Falcons beat visiting Sedona Red Rock 64-59 in a 3A West Region game. Dan Thomas added 19 points for the Falcons (10-7, 3-1). . . .

Corona del Sol used a 25-point first quarter to roll to a 68-45 win over visiting Skyline in a 5A nonregion game. f=Interstate-BlackCondensed s=8 l=9 Phil Feinberg o scored 19 points for the Aztecs (16-0).

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Corona del Sol defeated host Skyline 63-43 in a 5A nonregion game. Lisa Helmers led the charge for the Aztecs with 35 points, 10 rebounds and seven steals. . . .

Coolidge came out on top 69-48 over host Safford in a 3A South Region game. Keandra Glass had 23 points, 13 rebounds, seven steals, and five blocks to lead the Bears (17-2, 3-2). Crystal Edwards and Vanisha Smith also had seven steals each. Smith also added 12 points, 11 assists and six rebounds for Coolidge.

GIRLS SOCCER

Livia Kuby scored two goals to help lead Tempe Prep to a 9-0 victory over host Florence in a 3A-1A match. Nora Kuby had three assists and a goal for the Knights (12-0). . . .

Katie Blomberg, Shannon Desmond and Eleanor Beatty all scored three goals apiece as host Seton Catholic blanked Fountain Hills 10-0 in a 3A South Region match. Jessica Lopez contributed the 10th goal, and Danielle Wray recorded her sixth shutout for the Sentinels (10-4, 6-0). . . .

Host Red Mountain beat Mesa 4-1 in a 5A East Valley Region game. The Jackrabbits took a 1-0 lead into halftime, but Heather Sobczak, Manny Wikfors Lindsey Cerqua and Karin Kralicek each had a goal for the Mountain Lions (14-6, 1-2) in the second half.

Ashlee Klein scored the lone goal of the game for the Jackrabbits. . . .

Host Corona del Sol beat Basha 4-0 in a 5A Central Region game. Noel Guevara, Holly Benson, Katie Cartwright, and Courtney Mayers each scored a goal for the Aztecs (16-1-1, 3-0).

Stephanie Phillips recorded her eighth shutout of the season and had eight saves. . . .

Danna Cravens recorded her 11th shutout of the season as visiting Dobson beat Skyline 8-0 in a 5A East Valley Region game. Krista Mirabelli, and Allison Wise scored two goals apiece for the Mustangs (15-3, 3-0).

BOYS SOCCER

Fountain Hills defeated visiting Canyon State Academy 4-0 in a non-conference game. f=Interstate-BlackCondensed s=8 l=9 Tyler Keith o scored two goals for the Falcons (6-4). . . .

Edy Farfan scored two goals in Mesa's 3-2 victory over visiting Red Mountain in a 5A East Valley Region match. Farfan's goals gave him a total of 18 for the season, setting a school record. Farfan also had an assist and Theo Qwi added a goal and an assist for Mesa (16-2, 2-1). . . .

Skyline continued its best start in school history as the Coyotes beat host Dobson 1-0, after winning 5-4 in a shootout. "The defense was outstanding all game long. Cameron Long and Anthony Crum both played outstanding games,” said Skyline coach Shane Bycott. Both Crum and Long scored in the shootout for the Coyotes (13-4, 3-0). . . .

Seton Catholic had three players score multiple goals in its 17-0 victory over visiting Maricopa. Juniors Karl Agudo and John Rogers each had six goals and Sergio Beltran added two goals.

Agudo's six goals give him 44 total, with Rogers' total now at 25. Taylor Lombardie earned the his 11th shutout for the Sentinels (13-2, 10-0). . . .

Stefan Demos scored four goals to lead Horizon to a 6-2 over host Phoenix Shadow Mountain in a 5A Desert Valley Region game. Juan Mendez and Ricardo Celaya scored the other two goals for the Huskies (7-3, 1-1).
