Junior quarterback Bryce Perkins completed 8 of 9 passes for 149 yards and a career-high five touchdowns to lead Chandler past Laveen Cesar Chavez, 41-21, on Friday night.

All five touchdown passes from Perkins came in the first two quarters since he didn't play a down in the second half with his Wolves up 34-0 at the break.

"We just focused on ourselves. We knew if we came out an executed right it would be an easy game for us. We just focused on the details and made it a big game for us," Perkins said. "My receivers did an excellent job of getting open and I put [the ball] where it needed to be for them to make big plays."

On his last three passes, Perkins hit three receivers in-between the numbers for three touchdowns, the last of which came on a 37-yard strike to senior wide receiver Dionte Sykes with 4:04 to go in the first half to make it 34-0.

It was Sykes' second touchdown catch of the night, the first coming on a 4-yard grab in the first quarter. Sykes was glad to see his Chandler (3-2) squad come out and play the first half the way they did.

"We came out and treated them like every other team we play. We worked hard throughout the week and we came out and treated them like they were a state team. We came out and battled and won," Sykes said.

Twelve different receivers caught a pass from Chandler quarterbacks Friday night and with their ability to spread the ball around the field and at 3-2, Sykes believes the Wolves can make a run at state.

"We can make a run. We played two tough teams and it's just a little bump in the road. We'll get over it and we'll be fine," Sykes said.

The Wolves started the season 2-0 but lost to one of the top rated teams in the country in St. John Bosco (Calif.) two weeks ago, 52-31, and lost to top ranked Mountain Pointe last Friday, 38-14.

Missing senior starting quarterback Ivan Jones, who sat out Friday night's contest with a high ankle sprain, the Cesar Chavez offense sputtered in the first half.

The second half was a different story, however, as third-string quarterback Daniel Lerma completed 12 of 21 passes for 155 yards and two touchdowns. His favorite target was senior wideout Chasyi Bryant, who had six catches for 92 yards and two scores.

Nevertheless, Chandler coach Shaun Aguano thought his team played well in the first half and that it was good to get back to winning.

"We came back focused in this week of practice, so I knew he was going to have a pretty good night," Aguano said. "We played the No. 1 team in the country and we played Mountain Pointe who is the No. 1 team in Arizona and even though we didn't think we played real well, we think we are right there with everyone else."
