Prep Highlights: Anderson, Chaparral lead golf tourney

Scottsdale Chaparral’s Troy Anderson shot 72 Tuesday and led by one stroke after the second day of the Scottsdale Unified School District Golf Tournament at Papago Golf Course in Phoenix.

Teammate Joey Pirmann is right behind him after shooting a 73 and has helped Anderson give Chaparral (293) a lead over Scottsdale Desert Mountain (308), Phoenix Arcadia (325), Scottsdale Saguaro (348) and Scottsdale Coronado (423).

The final day of the tournament takes place today at Sanctuary Golf Course in Scottsdale.

BOYS GOLF

Perry’s Matt Jensen shot 35 to win by five strokes, leading the Pumas (158) past Phoenix Trevor Browne (205) and Tempe (209) in a meet at Bear Creek Golf Course in Chandler.

Kevin Gillick shot a 1-under 35 to lead Notre Dame Prep (144) past Phoenix Greenway (169), Phoenix Washington (178) and Phoenix Cortez (211) at Cave Creek Golf Course in Phoenix.

BADMINTON

Host Westwood beat third-ranked Phoenix Xavier 6-3 in a 5A-I nonregion match. After losing the first singles match, the Warriors (6-2) came back to win the next four and take a 4-2 lead heading into doubles play. In the first doubles match, the Westwood team of Angela Vega and Julie Asister hung on for a 15-5, 6-15, 15-12 win.

VOLLEYBALL

Laura DeGeorge had eight kills, 12 aces and nine digs to lead visiting Fountain Hills past Coolidge 25-21, 25-16, 25-15 in a 3A South Region match. Cori Chrzanowski added 12 digs for the Falcons (12-6, 4-1).

Lacey Palmer had eight kills to lead visiting Westwood past Mesa High 25-22, 25-19, 26-24 in a 5A-I East Valley Region match. Meghan Ryan added 19 assists for the Warriors (12-13, 2-0). Lexi Brown had 24 digs for the Jackrabbits (3-5, 0-1).

Paige Pearson had 15 kills as Chandler (8-0, 2-0) stayed undefeated by downing Basha at home 25-23, 15-25, 25-12, 25-18. Mariah Huenneke had 12 kills for the Bears.

Kim Chick had 18 kills as visiting Saguaro beat Paradise Valley 25-15, 25-17, 22-25, 25-10 in a 4A-I Desert Sky Region match. Nicole Eiler added 33 digs for the Sabercats.
