The VisitMesa.com Basketball Challenge is littered with top players from this state and others.

Kyle Tresnak’s display on Tuesday assured he wouldn’t get lost in the shuffle.

Scottsdale Horizon’s senior center had 28 points, 16 rebounds and four blocks to lead the Huskies to a 66-49 win over Chandler at Mesa Mountain View.

He was 10-of-14 from the field, the majority on buckets right near the basket as the Wolves had no way of matching up with the 6-foot-9 Weber State commit.

“He had a big game,” coach Paul Long said. “The height advantage sure helps.”

The game was tied at 23, but Horizon used an 18-4 run between the first and second halves to zoom to a 41-27 lead.

The Wolves answered with a 9-0 run to cut the lead to 41-36 with 10:12 remaining, but would get no closer.

In one impressive stretch in the second half, Tresnak scored 14 of Horizon’s 16 points as the lead ballooned to 13.

Chandler enjoys playing a frenetic style, with a full-court press on defense and a transition offense.

But with Collin Woods at the point, Horizon had no trouble dealing with the trapping defense. The Huskies had 15 turnovers, a respectable number against the Wolves.

Chandler pressed early but backed off because it was ineffective.

“You can full (court press), but it’s not going to cause Collin a lot of problems,” Long said.

Chandler’s Devirous Johnson played well in his second game back from a torn meniscus, scoring 23 points and securing eight rebounds. Desmond Floyd added 13 points for Chandler.
