Tribune softball rankings as of April 8:

Division I

1. Mountain Ridge

2. Horizon

3. Basha

4. Gilbert

5. Red Mountain

6. Mountain View

7. Desert Ridge

8. Perry

9. Xavier

10. Desert Mountain

The first significant shakeup this season happened last week, and another could be coming. Mountain Ridge takes over the top spot on account of a 6-3 road win at Basha, narrowly edging Horizon for the top spot. The Huskies move up a spot to No. 2, while Red Mountain falls three spots after losing twice last week (Gilbert and Desert Ridge). The Lions will face Mountain View on Friday. Gilbert is the other big winner, vaulting up into the top five after beating Red Mountain in conjunction with losses by Desert Ridge (to Basha...barely) and Perry (also to Basha). Xavier was idle on Spring Break last week but unfortunately for the Gators, the shakeup above caused them to drop a spot. Desert Mountain enters after beating Chaparral (which knocked out the Firebirds). Cienega is 11-0 in power rankings games but the schedule has been very generous so the jury is still out on them and Centennial.

Division II

1. Sunrise Mountain

2. Canyon del Oro

3. Paradise Valley

4. Greenway

5. Cactus

Sunrise Mountain stays atop the rankings after a 1-0 nail-biting win against Cactus and a 4-1 decision over Raymond Kellis. Paradise Valley enters the rankings after beating Greenway, which tumbles Greenway down to No. 4 and Raymond Kellis out of the picture for the time being. The Trojans' PP schedule isn't helping their cause and they could win out (or close) the rest of the regular season, but playing in the Desert Mountain tournament helps David Moore's team beyond the numbers. Cactus wins out (despite a 6-4 PP record) on account of its schedule and recent play, while Sahuaro, Kellis and Flagstaff all make a case to be/remain included.

Division III

1. Winslow

2. Estrella Foothills

3. Empire

4. Benson

5. Morenci

No changes here as everyone won out, which leaves Payson stuck waiting to pounce on the next available opportunity.

Division IV

1. AZ Lutheran

2. St. Johns

3. NW Christian

4. Phoenix Christian

5. Salt River

Another No. 1 falls, as Phoenix Christian toppled No. 1 NW Christian, 10-5. AZ Lutheran takes over the top spot after it turned around and beat Phoenix Christian two days after the AZ Lutheran victory. Valley Christian falls out after it also lost to AZ Lutheran last week - the Trojans could return to the rankings - another loss which allows St. Johns to move up. Salt River gets the nod at No. 5 with a solid schedule, though at 4-1 it's going to be a frenzied final couple weeks for the Eagles. Although it just lost to Div. III Benson twice in the past 10 days, Valley Union makes a case with its strength of schedule, and Tanque Verde is also in the mix.
