Scottsdale Prep continued its dominance of Division VI Friday, steamrolling Gilbert Christian 64-26.

Gilbert Christian took an 8-0 lead on the first drive of the game, and seemed to be eyeing an upset. After the first quarter Scottsdale Prep was up only 16-14, but the Spartans were too big, too fast and outnumbered Gilbert Christian by too many players for the Knights to challenge them all four quarters.

Scottsdale Prep quarterback Aidan Wright had another impressive start with 340 total yards and six touchdowns (four passing, two rushing). Running backs Connor Mckenzie and Jacob Wilson added 40-yard touchdown runs as the Spartans had another explosive night on offense.

Scottsdale Prep (5-0) had seven different players score a touchdown.

The Knights (2-3) dressed only 15 players for the game, all of which were either freshmen or sophomores, and had multiple players exit the game with injuries.

“They’re a lot taller, a lot bigger and a lot more mature than us," Gilbert Christian coach Jeff Cook said. "We stuck with them for the first half but the second half we got a little tired and a little worn out. A few of us gave up, and it’s a little disheartening.”

Gilbert Christian was led by running back Nolan Cook, who was in at quarterback due to injuries. Cook had 75 yards passing and one touchdown, but spent most of the night running the ball.  He had 30 carries for 120 yards and two touchdowns.

Scottsdale Prep has been dominant in their first five games of the season, averaging 62 points a game while no opponent has come within 30 points of the Spartans.

“It’s surprising and exciting for us," coach Will Munsil said. "If you told anyone in the state that we would be sitting at 5-0, it’s a bit of a surprise. Obviously our biggest test comes next week against Mogollon (4-1). They’re a historical power and we know they are a great team.”
