Samantha Parlich tossed a no-hitter, allowing her only base runner on an error with two outs in the seventh, to lead Chandler Basha to a 9-0 win over visiting Paradise Valley in 5A softball action Wednesday.

Parlich improved to 4-1, striking out 12 batters while adding three hits of her own.

“She got in the zone today,” Bears coach Scott Hoffmeyer said.

“She refocused with a good week of practice.”

Alyssa Valenzuela went 4-for-4 to lead the Bears (7-2) offensively.


Lauren Stephan overcame five errors behind her and pitched out of two bases-loaded jams to lead host Mountain Pointe (4-0) to a 4-2 victory over Corona del Sol (3-1). Cami Carrera who was 3-for-3 for the Pride. Ashley Hansen led the Aztecs with two hits.


Desert Ridge’s Jake Barrett pitched his second straight shutout in a 2-0 victory over visiting Skyline. Barrett struck out nine. …

Justin McDavid went 4-for-4 to lead visiting Higley (4-5) to a 7-4 victory over Phoenix Greenway. …

Kevin Rhoderick struck out 12 batters in a one-hitter to help host Horizon (8-0) stay undefeated with an 11-0 victory over Glendale Deer Valley in five innings. Steve DeFrietas went 3-for-3 with a grand slam for the Huskies. …

Casey Rana (1-0) struck out six while throwing a complete game to lead Mesquite (2-7) to a 3-2 home victory over Paradise Valley. Austin Carr had the game-winning single for the Wildcats in the fourth inning, breaking a 2-2 tie.


Cactus Shadows got the best of McClintock and Tempe, winning their meet 81-55-39. McClintock’s John Yatsko, a cross country state champion, turned heads with his 9:53 performance in the 3,200 meters.


Samia Stokes won the shot put and the discus while Tiffany Summers was tops in the high jump and triple jump to help Corona del Sol take down Paradise Valley at home 110-31.


Scottsdale Christian (175) defeated Wickenburg (185), Valley Christian (186), and Bourgade Catholic (202) behind winner Gavin Lyon’s 1-over 37 at Phantom Horse.
