Outlook: The Bears got off on the right foot last week at Tucson, pulling away in the second half.

Injuries (Will Ewing and Jeremy McCarver) have already stung the Bears, and with players being plugged into key spots, coach Tim McBurney wants to see how his defense responds against Dobson’s offense. “This week will be a tougher test,” McBurney said. “It’s a better club.”

It’s a tough test for Dobson, too. The biggest question for the Mustangs is how much progress their defense can make after giving up the most points of any team in the region and way too many for a team that nearly finished .500. On offense, new quarterback Cody Lewis, new marquee back Scott Kneisel and wideout Eric Henkel are counted on to replace the production of current Washington State running back Marcus Richmond.

Address: 1501 W. Guadalupe Road, Mesa

Last year’s result: Basha 28, Dobson 6
