Perry is one of many schools with an unusual schedule this year, as the Pumas played teams like Casa Grande Vista Grande and Apache Junction but not nearby schools like Higley or Williams Field under the new system that was supposed to pair teams up geographically.
Mesquite’s Karai Keil tries to haul in a pass against Red Mountain’s Drake Pierre during their game on September 2. Mesquite is 3-5 this year but has the top-rated strength of schedule in Division I and still has a chance to reach the postseason.

You posted an excellent article but we should go further in correcting a really bad high school football situation. Yes, teams should be automatically elevated or dropped down based on their historic as well as recent record but they should in some cases be moved more than one classification. Also, the AIA has to put some teeth into this issue of star athletes moving to schools with good programs which is caused by recruiting on the part of booster clubs at these successful schools. I know it's about the next level but kids have to realize that there is such a thing as school loyalty which is part of the equation that builds character ih a student athlete.
