No. 13 Desert Ridge eliminated host No. 5 Alhambra, 12-1, in five innings, Tuesday, in their 5A Division I softball state tournament loser's bracket game.

Megan Steffensmeier went 3-for-4, Shelby Nunez went 3-for-3 and Courtney Stoll finished the game 3-for-4 to lead the Jaguars to the upset.

Desert Ridge plays the loser of today's St. Mary's/Gilbert match-up.

Kailey Regester finished 4-for-4 with two RBI from the plate, while allowing only two runs on six hits from the mound to lead No. 3 Basha to an 8-3 victory over No. 11 Mountain Pointe, Tuesday, in their 5A-I loser's bracket game.

Regester picked up her 14th win of the season for the Bears (22-11).

The Pride's Ciara Gonzales went 2-for-3 with an RBI in the loss.

Every player had a hit for No. 2 Red Mountain as they routed visiting No. 10 Maryvale, 18-0.

The Lions' Sara Goodrum led the hit parade going 4-for-4 with 3 RBI.

Mel Willadsen allowed no hits and struck out eight in 3 innings for Red Mountain (30-3).

The Lions will play the loser of today's Casa Grande/Highland game on Friday.


Rae Ball allowed only one hit and No. 5 Chaparral scored five runs in the first inning in the Firebirds' 19-0 victory against No. 13 Carl Hayden in five innings, in a 5A-II loser's bracket game.

Ball recorded eight strikeouts, surrendered no runs and went 2-for-3 with a double and 3 RBI for the Firebirds (22-12).

Not to be outdone, teammate Taylor Benally was a perfect 3-for-3 with two doubles, a triple and two RBI.

Chaparral will play the loser of today's matchup pitting No. 1 Centennial and No. 8 Perry.
