Softball roundup: Seton’s Reisinger is perfect

Seton Catholic’s Carissa Reisinger tossed the first perfect game of her career as Chandler Seton Catholic advanced to the semifinals of the 3A state softball tournament.

Reisinger struck out five and recorded the school’s first perfect playoff game. Kelsey Rodriguez and Ashley Wetzel each knocked in three RBIs for the Sentinels (21-8). Seton will play Wickenberg Friday.


CHAPARRAL 10, GLENDALE APOLLO 0: The Firebirds (27-7) got a fiveinning, no-hitter from sophomore pitcher Mackenzie Popescue to beat the Hawks at Chaparral. Popescue struck out nine and walked three to record her first playoff no-hitter and also went 3-for-3 and knocked in two runs.

Tessa Braga made a diving play and throw to first in the fourth inning to keep the no-hitter intact. Chaparral will play Vail Cienega Tuesday.

TUCSON CANYON DEL ORO 3 MCCLINTOCK 0: Rose Rover and Jannette Castillo each recorded a hit for the Chargers, but Kate Wilczynski hit a solo home run for the host Dorados to end McClintock’s season.

TUCSON SAHUARO 3, PINNACLE 2: Sahuaro junior Logan Hall scored the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning to end the Pioneers’ season in Tucson. Hall scored on a bunt from second base when a Pinnacle throw to first pulled second baseman Ashlynn Thompson off the bag.

Pinnacle (13-18-2) stranded the go-ahead run on third base in the top of the seventh when Sahuaro pitcher Kira White posted her 14th strikeout of the game.

In other games, Tucson Ironwood Ridge beat Tucson Pueblo, 7-3; Glendale Cactus beat Lake Havasu, 2-1; Vail Cienega beat Tucson Catalina Foothills, 5-4; and Tucson Sabino beat Goodyear Millennium, 5-0.


ARCADIA 8, FLAGSTAFF COCONINO 0: The Titans’ Paula Liebler improved her record to 15-2 by allowing just one hit and striking out 17 batters in a victory over the Panthers at Arcadia.

Danielle Madison had the key hit for host Arcadia (22-4-1), a tworun triple in the fourth inning that broke open a 1-0 game. Madison was 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Sara Lichsinn was for 2-for-4 with an RBI and three runs scored, and Marissa Smith was 3 for 4 with two RBIs. Arcadia plays Cottonwood Mingus Tuesday.

TEMPE 7, GOODYEAR DESERT EDGE 1: Alex Uriarte went 3-for-4 with two home runs and five RBIs as the host Buffaloes beat Desert Edge. Stephani Pesqueria got her 13th win of the season and pitched a five hitter with seven strikeouts for the Buffaloes (20-7), who advanced to play Flagstaff on Tuesday.

FLAGSTAFF 10, NOTRE DAME 0: The Eagles (24-5) were in their element and it showed.

With intermittent snow falling, host Flagstaff got a two-run homer from Cristin Martin and a grand slam courtesy of Jessica Baca to rout the Saints (12-18) and advance to a quarterfinal meeting with Tempe Tuesday.

BULLHEAD CITY MOHAVE 5, APACHE JUNCTION 1: The Prospectors’ Lauren Jackson and Terra Ciesielski both had two hits, but it wasn’t enough as Apache Junction (17-16-1) fell to the host Thunderbirds (22-7).

In other games, Cottonwood Mingus beat Buckeye, 2-1; Phoenix Sunnyslope beat El Mirage Dysart, 8-0; Prescott Valley Bradshaw Mountain beat Douglas, 15-9; and Tucson Palo Verde beat Tucson Desert View, 1-0.


SHOW LOW 3, FLORENCE 2 (11): The Cougars upset the Gophers (24-12) on an RBI single in the bottom of the 11th inning at Rose Mofford. Rebecca Williams had an RBI on two hits for the Gophers.

In other games, Wickenburg beat Payson, 4-1; and Goodyear Estrella Foothills beat Holbrook, 9-2.


SCOTTSDALE CHRISTIAN 5, TOMBSTONE 0: Heidi Purtzer pitched a four-hitter and added two home runs and three RBIs to lead the Eagles past the Yellow Jackets at Rose Mofford. The Eagles advance to play Willcox Friday.

In other games, Willcox beat Phoenix Christian, 10-0; Benson beat Tucson Pusch Ridge, 8-0; and Phoenix Northwest Christian beat St. Johns 4-0


St. Augustine beat Bagdad, 6-1; Superior beat Mollogon, 7-1; Elfrida Valley Union beat Phoenix Valley Lutheran, 12-2; Joseph City beat Tucson Green Fields 10-0.
