Avondale Westview didn’t waste any time Friday. The Knights scored three first-quarter touchdowns and rolled to a 35-10 victory over visiting Anthem Boulder Creek (9-2) in a 5A-II state quarterfinal game.
R.J. Robinson capped Westview’s opening drive with a 24-yard touchdown run and added a 9-yard score after Boulder Creek snapped the ball over the punter’s head.
The Knights (11-1), who will face Tempe Marcos de Niza Friday in the semifinals, took a commanding lead when Nick Sornsin converted a 3rd-and-1 into a 38-yard touchdown pass to put the Knights ahead 21-0 with 2:06 left in the first quarter.
Westview held heralded Boulder Creek quarterback Taylor Davis to 114 yards on 14-of-26 passing with one interception and a 3-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter.
