Here we go again. Chandler Valley Christian vs. Phoenix Northwest Christian. A berth in the 2A girls volleyball state championship match hanging in the balance.

The Trojans are hoping today’s match will leave a wholly different feeling than last year’s three-game loss.

Chanel Brown had 33 kills, 21 digs, four aces and two blocks and Stacy Jones had 20 kills, 11 digs and a block as Valley Christian (18-2) fought off a spirited effort from Phoenix Horizon Honors to post a 21-25, 25-16, 20-25, 25-19, 15-7 victory in the quarterfinals Friday at Peoria High School.

“They played us much tougher than they did in our two other games this year,” Valley Christian coach Molly Stark said.

“We got great efforts from everyone, and we needed it.”

Middle blocker Kristen Johannsen added six kills, five blocks and two aces for Valley Christian.

Setter Tori Gentry had 52 assists.

Valley Christian trailed 13-8 in the fourth game before rallying to stay alive.
