Apache Junction defensive back Shane McCullen has verbally committed to play football at Arizona State, according to Internet recruiting services.

The 6-foot-2, 193-pound McCullen is the Sun Devils' fifth commitment in the 2009 recruiting class, the third from Arizona. He reportedly had scholarship offers from seven other schools, including California and Stanford.

McCullen told ASUDevils.com that he will play a hybrid linebacker/safety position for the Prospectors this season.
