VX roundup 11/30: Benson scores 39 in Corona boys basketball victory

Casey Benson set a career high with 39 points and Bryan Siefker added 11 as the No. 10 Aztecs cruised past Chandler, 76-49, in Division I boys basketball action on Friday night at Corona. Marcos Morales led the Wolves with 18 points.

Dobson 75, Highland 61: Jaron Hopkins had 31 points as No. 3 Dobson built a big lead through three quarters and cruised to the win. Ryan Richardson added 13 points and Kairee Williams had 12 for the Mustangs. Jake Toolson had 23 points for the Hawks and Austin Witherill had 22.

Campo Verde 75, Apache Junction 47: Legend Artis scored 14 points to lead the Coyotes to victory. Christian Wolf (11 points) and Devante Walker (10) also scored in double figures, while John McCune led the Prospectors with 14.

Pinnacle 79, North Canyon 50: Drew Bender had 32 points as the Pioneers cruised to the win.

Other scores

Saguaro 74, Coronado 43; Mesa 60, Camelback 50; Chaparral 58, Desert Mountain 53.

Girls basketball

Marcos de Niza 46, Westwood 26: Jorie Mayfield and Sydnie Lengyel scored 14 points apiece to lead the Padres. Kianna Islas had seven points for the Warriors.

St Mary's 60, Page 25: The Knights cruised in the semifinals of the NGS Classic.

Campo Verde 61, Higley 35:  Stephanie Orji 20 points and Cori Ramos added 10 points as C.V. outscored Higley 17-4 in the third quarter to pull away with the victory.

Chaparral 41, Desert Mountain 37

Boys soccer

Mesa 2, Desert Vista 1: Sophomore Manny Venzor on assists from Brian Perea and Carlos Ibarra in the first half for the Jackrabbits and Matt Winkler made seven saves in goal to get the win. Mesa is 2-0 overall while DV is 2-1. Mesa plays in the Diablo Tournament beginning Monday against Desert Mountain.

Red Mountain 2, Mountain View 1: The Lions won the Brown Road rivalry matchup by getting goals from Carson Frost and Cody Lawrence for the victory. The Toros' goal came on a second-half penalty kick.

Campo Verde 3, Higley 0:  Sam Gleadle scored two goals and assisted on the third for the Coyotes' victory. Angel Rodriguez had the other goal while Daniel Arellano and Briley Guarneri both had two assists in the win for Campo. 

Girls soccer

Red Mountain 2, Mountain View 0: Emily Maier and Sydney Schroeder each scored a goal to lift the Mountain Lions to victory. Cassandra Balsley had the shutout in goal.
