They filled the lower bowl and half of the upper deck, most of them to cheer on Kayenta Monument Valley. But they were disappointed — twice.

The boys and girls teams from the Navajo Reservation school fell short in their 3A state title games Saturday night at America West Arena.

Globe beat the Monument Valley boys, 68-51, to complete a 33-0 season. The Tigers had to do it front of a large, hostile crowd. The Arizona Interscholastic Association announced the crowd that entered after 3 p.m. at 14,579.

The girls were beaten by Springerville Round Valley, 68-63, earlier Saturday.

1A

JOSEPH CITY 57, FREDONIA 41: Stratton Solomon scored 14 points to lead Joseph City past Fredonia for its first 1A title.

PIMA 50, CIBECUE 33: Bonnie Bryce scored 16 points and grabbed 17 rebounds to lead Pima to its second straight title.
