Alexa Thorell's two-out single in the top of the fourth inning was all the scoring Chaparral would need, as pitcher Dallas McBride shut out Xavier, 1-0, on Friday.
Nat Cravens led off the fourth with a double, advanced to third on a ground ball, then scored the winning run off Thorell's only hit of the game.
McBride stuck out three batters on the night, while she allowed only four hits.
The win couldn't have come at a better time for the Firebirds (11-5), who are chasing Horizon for the fourth spot in the power point standings.
The Gators (12-2), who were the No. 2-ranked power point team coming into the game, suffered only their second PP loss of the year.
In other Division I action, Red Mountain’s seven-run fifth, capped by Ashley Hill’s grand slam, propelled the Mountain lions to a 14-4 victory over Highland in five innings.
Along with Hill, Payton Kornfeind, Siera Phillips, Bre Gonzalez, Taylor Beeson, Tori Sotelo, and Haley Culley all had multiple hits for Red Mountain, who racked up 17 in total against the Hawks.
