Emma Darlington of Tucson Salpointe, the defending 5A Division I state champion in the 50 freestyle and 100 free, was upset in both events by last year's state runner-up, Aleesha Miller, as Mountain View dominated the Lancers, 135-51, in a 5A nonregion swim meet Wednesday at Mountain View.
Miller won the 50 free in 24:06 and the 100 in 52.48.
Toros swimmers placed first in all of the events.
BOYS CROSS COUNTRY
The Horizon boys (16 points) outran both Glendale Mountain Ridge (47) and Glendale Ironwood (77) at Horse Lovers Park in Phoenix. f=Interstate-BlackCondensed s=8 l=9.7 Ben Jankunas f=Interstate-Light s=8 l=9.7 of Horizon was the top finisher in 17:19. . . .
Phoenix Thunderbird's George Alex f=Interstate-Light s=8 l=9.7 was the top overall finisher with a time of 16:58 as Glendale Apollo (37 points) finished ahead of Thunderbird (41), Saguaro (63) and Phoenix Cortez (75) at Apollo High School. . . .
Ryan Lee's 16:59 broke the course record at Marley Park in Surprise and led the way for Higley (21) as the Knights defeated Glendale Cactus (49), Surprise Willow Canyon (76), and Buckeye (no score).
GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY
Twin sisters Nadia and Nastia Bishton placed first and second while leading Mountain Ridge (15 points) over Horizon (55) and Ironwood (78) at Horse Lovers Park. Nadia led all competitors with a time of 20:38. . . .
Erin De La Mater was Higley's best runner at 20:33 as the Knights defeated Willow Canyon, Cactus, and Buckeye at Marley Park.
BOYS SWIMMING
Brophy swimmers placed first in all events including Nick Ostreim in the 100 freestyle (50.34) and the 100 backstroke (58.14) as the host Broncos dominated Glendale Deer Valley, 149-37, in 5A nonregion action.
