After getting past No. 18 Ironwood Ridge in three games earlier in the day (25-17, 25-16, 25-19), No. 15 Hamilton ran into No. 2 Highland, who knocked the Huskies out of the second round of the boys state volleyball tournament, 25-17, 25-13, 25-18.

Ryan Morrison had nine kills, three aces and three blocks to lead the way for the Hawks. His teammates did their part as Sean Chapman had 10 kills and three blocks and Colin Ward finished with four kills and 28 assists, respectively.

The Hawks move on to the quarterfinals and will host No. 10 Perry on Tuesday at 7 p.m.

Perry 3, Rincon 0: Having to win two games in order to make it to the quarterfinals, the No. 10-ranked Pumas were up to the task down in Tucson, first dispatching No. 23 Cienega in three games 25-17, 25-18, 25-10 and then defeating the No. 7 ranked Rangers on their own floor 25-17, 25-13, 25-18. Things don’t get any easier for Perry, however, as they have to turn around and visit No. 2 Highland, Tuesday.

Mesa 3, Centennial 0: The Jackrabbits advanced to the quarterfinals after beating the visiting No. 14 ranked Coyotes in three games 25-22, 25-13, 25-14. They will host No. 6 Boulder Creek, Tuesday, at 7 p.m.

Gilbert 3, Chandler 0: The No. 20 ranked Wolves played the No. 4 ranked Tigers close, but ultimately fell short as Gilbert advanced to the quarterfinals with a 25-23, 25-17, 27-25 victory at home. Chandler earned their shot at Gilbert by upsetting No. 13 Sahuaro in four games 18-25, 25-21, 25-21, 25-18 earlier in the day. The Tigers move on to host No. 5 Brophy at 7 p.m. on Tuesday.

Desert Vista 3, Sandra Day O’ Connor 1: If the top seeded Thunder were looking for a cake walk into the quarterfinals, they didn’t get it, as the No. 17 ranked Eagles put up a fight, taking one game from Desert Vista before the Thunder took care of business 25-16, 25-19, 23-25, 25-23. Desert Vista will now take on No. 8 Salpointe Catholic at home on Tuesday.
