03/18 - Softball roundup: Mesa High rallies twice

Jenny Jackson went 4-for-5 and scored the tying run in both the seventh and ninth innings as Mesa beat host McClintock 5-4 Wednesday at the Marcos de Niza-McClintock softball tournament.

Jackson scored on an errant throw in the seventh to tie the game. After both teams scored in the eighth inning, and McClintock scored again in the ninth, Jackson and Sara Charbonneau (3-for-4) came home on another errant throw to win it for Mesa (4-9) in the ninth. Jamie Cronin scattered four hits for the win.

HIGHLAND 5, DOBSON 4: Megan Sasulo drove in the winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning to give the Hawks a victory over the Mustangs in the Marcos de Niza-McClintock tournament at McClintock High. Emmalee Brown had two hits and drove in a run for Highland.

GILBERT 10, TEMPE 0: Kori Bowser went 2-for-4 with a triple and an RBI to lead Gilbert (9-7) over Tempe in the fifth-place game of the Marcos de Niza-McClintock tournament at McClintock High. Becca Quinones went 2-for-3 with two RBIs for the Tigers.

MOUNTAIN VIEW 4, MARCOS DE NIZA 1: Amanda Nesbitt struck out nine in a complete-game win as the Toros (10-5) got by the Padres in the Marcos de Niza-McClintock tournament at McClintock High. Lindsey Dyer led Mountain View at the plate, going 1-for-3 with three RBIs. Jessica Mapes was 2-for-3 with a run, and catcher Kelley Drane finished 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI to lead the Padres.


PHOENIX SHADOW MOUNTAIN 8, SAGUARO 6: Anna Chandler went 4-for-4 with a double and an RBI as the host Matadors beat the Sabercats in non-region action.

Terra Westlick, Courtney Johnson and Molly Crossman each had two hits for Saguaro (7-2). The Sabercats’ Danielle Lara-Schutz had a double that drove in three RBIs in the sixth inning.

Shadow Mountain (8-7) got two hits each from Sarah Baker, Christina Davis and Ashlee Henderson.

DESERT MOUNTAIN 13, PHOENIX MARYVALE 3: The visiting Wolves (10-2) blew out Maryvale (9-6) in a 5Anon region game. Whitney Phillips picked up her third victory, and was 4-for-4 at the plate with a double, a triple and four RBIs.

Casey Goldstand and Stefanie Ewing both were 2-for-4 with three RBIs for Desert Mountain.
