Mountain Pointe coach Norris Vaughan did not want to run up the score.
Twice in the fourth quarter the Pride started their drive inside Phoenix Maryvale territory and Vaughan decided to attempt for the field goal on first down.
The kicker missed the field goal both times which was a good thing because Vaughan did not want to pour it on anymore; his team was already up by 72.
“We kicked the field goal because we didn’t want to score a touchdown,” Vaughan said. “It’s unfortunate. They’re a good group, they got a good coach, they’re just young and inexperienced and what can you say. I don’t enjoy playing a game like this.”
The Mountain Pointe backups enjoyed this game because after scoring 51 in the first half the starters were done early in Thursday’s 72-0 win.
