Updated baseball rankings, as of April 23:

Division I

1. Desert Mountain 25-4

2. Desert Ridge 25-5

3. St. Mary’s 23-3

4. Hamilton 20-6

5. Sandra Day O’Connor 29-3

6. Mesquite 19-7

7. Gilbert 20-8

8. Tucson 26-4-1

9. Pinnacle 18-12

10. Tolleson 23-4

Several ranked teams took a dive this week. Desert Mountain lost to McClintock but remains at No. 1 based on its body of work. Desert Ridge has won 14 consecutive games to jump to No. 2, followed by St. Mary’s. Hamilton drops to No. 4 after losing again to Mesquite, followed by Sandra Day O’Connor, losers of two games last week to take some shine off a solid season. Mesquite continued its surprising ascent with wins over Basha and Hamilton last week, and now must be considered as viable player come tournament time. Gilbert has lost twice in its past four games and moves down to No. 7, followed by Tucson. Pinnacle also falls after consecutive losses to Desert Mountain and Gilbert, while Tolleson jumps in at No. 10 after a big win over O’Connor. Brophy and Trevor Browne drop from the rankings.

Division II

1. Greenway 29-1

2. Notre Dame 23-6

3. Liberty 18-2-1

4. Sunnyslope 23-4-1

5. Seton Catholic 20-6

6. Sahuaro 22-4-1

7. Ironwood Ridge 22-5

8. Sunrise Mountain 19-9

9. Verrado 22-3

10. Canyon del Oro 19-8

While there was plenty of volatility in the Division I rankings, the opposite was true last week in Division II. Greenway and Notre Dame went undefeated to remain at the top, and the flip-flip of Liberty and Sunnyslope at Nos. 3 and 4 was the only movement. Seton Catholic, Sahuaro, Ironwood Ridge, Sunrise Mountain and Verrado all had unblemished weeks to remain in their spots, while Canyon del Oro rebounded from a one-run loss to Sahuaro to win its final three games last week to stay at No. 10.

Division III

1. River Valley 23-1-1

2. Fountain Hills 24-4

3. Willcox 21-3

4. Estrella Foothills 18-6

5. Show Low 20-5

River Valley has pushed its winning streak to 21 games and stays in the top spot. Fountain Hills’ loss last week came to Division II power Saguaro, so the Falcons aren’t punished and remain at No. 2. Willcox and Estrella Foothills move up a spot apiece with undefeated weeks, while Show Low drops from No. 3 to No. 5 after a loss to Coconino.

Division IV

1. Yuma Catholic 20-1

2. Phoenix Christian 20-3

3. Desert Christian 20-4

4. Pusch Ridge 17-8

5. Tempe Prep 17-6

Yuma Catholic has now won 14 in a row and Phoenix Christian 10, so those two stay at the top of the rankings. Desert Christian’s 12-game winning streak was snapped by Palo Verde but the team remains at No. 3 because of its record. Pusch Ride went undefeated last week to stay at No. 4, while Tempe Prep stays at No. 5 because its loss came to No. 2 Phoenix Christian.
