Records: Desert Mountain 2-5, 0-2 Desert Valley Region; Paradise Valley 3-4, 0-2
Outlook:
Desert Mountain may be 13th in the 5A-II power point rankings, but a 28-14 loss to Shadow Mountain last week put a huge hit on the Wolves’ postseason chances.
Paradise Valley, on the other hand, has just one more win than Desert Mountain but sits firmly in seventh place in the power point rankings. More importantly, the four teams Paradise Valley has lost to — including 5A-I No. 1 Hamilton and 5A-II No. 1 North — are a combined 26-2 this season.
The Wolves, who gave up a pair of long touchdown passes to the Matadors last week, will be forced to stop the big-play potential of Paradise Valley’s ground game, led by backs Michael Williams and Tomarcus Jordan.
The Trojans were beaten at their own game last week by St. Mary’s, which ran for nearly 500 yards on the ground. Desert Mountain will play with its fourth different quarterback under center in junior Ryan Frazier.
