Dobson athletic director Dr. Ray Perkins has been sweating most of this week (literally in the case of Thursday afternoon), and he’s fine with it.

Much of it stems around Friday night, in which Dobson and Mesa will clash to open the 2013 football season. Beyond the game, however, is where more fun lies.

There will be a short dedication ceremony to officially unveil Dobson’s stadium renovations at 6:20 p.m. The football field is getting new grass and a new scoreboard was built thanks to donations through the Arizona Cardinals and Walmart.

There is also a new track surface and new gym floor surfaces, courtesy of school district allocated funds.

Mayor Scott Smith, city council member Dennis Kavanaugh and former Mustangs coach Mike Clark (who led Dobson to its only football state championship in 1987) will be in attendance.

There will also be a special halftime ceremony TBD, which Perkins declined to discuss beyond “it’s going to be pretty special.”

“We’re trying to make it a circus atmosphere for (coach George De La Torre), but nobody is going to care if we don’t win the football game,” Perkins said.
