No. 2 Xavier advanced to the quarterfinals of the Division I girls soccer state tournament with its 6-0 win over visiting No. 15 Trevor Browne. The Gators will host No. 10 Chaparral at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
No. 3 Highland shutout visiting No. 14 Kofa, 6-0, to move on to the second round. The Hawks will take on No. 6 Millennium at 2 p.m. on Saturday at Highland High School.
No. 4 Pinnacle came away with a 2-0 win over visiting No. 13 Marana Mountain View to advance to the quarterfinals. The Pioneers will play host to No. 12 Desert Vista at 2 p.m. on Satuday, after the Thunder used two late penalty kicks to beat No. 5 Red Mountain.
No. 8 Gilbert edged No. 9 Anthem Boulder Creek, 1-0, at Hamilton High School. The Tigers will visit top-seeded Hamilton at 2 p.m. on Saturday in the quarterfinals.
No. 10 Chaparral shutout No. 7 Maryvale 5-0 in its first round match at Xavier and will play the Gators at Xavier at 2 p.m. Saturday.
In other Division I action, No. 6 Goodyear Millennium defeated No. 11 Peoria Centennial, 3-2.
Division II
Kylee Mahoney scored the winning goal in the 96th minute to give No. 8 Notre Dame a 2-1 victory over No. 9 Thunderbird in overtime at Cactus Shadows High School in the first round of the Division II state tournament Wednesday.
The goal came after the Saints peppered the Chiefs goal constantly in the extra time.
"We must've hit the post and crossbar 6 or 7 times," Notre Dame coach Gary Gregory said.
Notre Dame got off to a fast start thanks to Shelly Mahoney's opening goal in the 12th minute. Thunderbird answered quickly and netted the tying goal six minutes later.
The Saints will get a chance to avenge their two losses that ended their regular season when they visit No. 1 Cactus Shadows at 2 p.m. on Saturday in the quarterfinals.
In other Division II action, No. 1 Cactus Shadows ran away with a 6-0 win over visiting No. 16 Greenway to advance to the second round.
No. 15 Tucson Sabino upset No. 2 Flagstaff, 3-2, on penalty kicks, No. 3 Catalina Foothills topped No. 14 Liberty, 4-0. No. 4 Raymond Kellis shutout No. 13 Coconino 3-0, No. 5 Glendale Apollo defeated No. 12 Tucson Sahuarita 3-2 and No. 6 Ironwood Ridge downed No. 11 Sahuaro 2-1.
Division III
No. 2 Campo Verde won big over visiting No. 15 Phoenix Country Day, 4-0. The Coyotes will play No. 7 Estrella Foothills at 2 p.m. on Saturday at Campo Verde H.S.
No. 4 Seton Catholic edged No. 13 Valley Christian 3-2. The Sentinels advance to the quarterfinals and will host No. 5 Mingus at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
No. 10 Williams Field saw its season come to an end after its 2-0 defeat at the hands of No. 7 Estrella Foothills at Verrado H.S.
In other Division III contests, No. 1 Palo Verde defeated No. 16 Northwest Christian, 5-0, No. 3 Verrado beat No. 14 Fountain Hills, 2-0, No. 5 Mingus defeated No. 12 Tanque Verde, 5-0, and No. 8 Cortez topped No. 9 Safford, 2-1.
