Chaparral has hired Dan Peterson as its new boys basketball coach, according to the school's website.
A letter printed on the school's website from principal Gayle Holland and district athletic director Clif McKenzie introduced Peterson, who spent the previous two seasons at Phoenix Moon Valley, where he was 16-37 in those two years, including 1-24 this past season. He also taught math at the school following his playing days at Nazarene University and earned a Master's Degree at Northern Arizona University. He played in Europe for several years before returning to the Valley and currently plays for the Arizona Scorpions in the American Basketball Association.
Peterson declined to comment in an email on Wednesday afternoon, while Holland didn't return messages seeking comment. He is the fourth boys basketball coach at the school since November.
Peterson and former Horizon coach Paul Long were believed to be the two finalists.
