No. 10 Valley Christian hit the road and upset No. 7 Parker, 25-16, 25-14, 25-12, on Thursday night to advance to the second round of the Division IV volleyball state tournament.

The Trojans' victory sets up a match against No. 15 Holbrook on Friday at 6 p.m. at Tim's Toyota Center in Prescott Valley. The Roadrunners advanced by upsetting No. 2 seeded Wilcox in four games.

In other Division IV state tournament action, No.16 Scottsdale Christian fought hard, but couldn't get past No. 1 Thatcher, which defeated the Eagles in three hard-fought games, 25-22, 25-18, 25-13. Scottsdale Christian's season came to an end, as they were eliminated from the tournament.

No. 3 Northwest Christian dispatched No. 14 Tempe Prep, beating the Knights, 25-23, 25-20, 25-13 in Division IV. The loss knocked Tempe out of the tournament and ended their season.

In Division I, No. 2 Xavier took care of business, defeating visiting Rincon in three games, 25-8, 25-9, 25-8, to advance. With the win, the Gators will move on to face No. 3 Gilbert on Saturday at 2 p.m. at Grand Canyon University.

No. 5 Phoenix Sunnyslope defeated No. 13 Queen Creek in a five-game nail biter in Division II, 16-25, 14-25, 25-23, 25-21, 15-13. Queen Creek looked to be cruising to a victory and a matchup with No. 8 Peoria Liberty on Saturday after taking the first to sets, but the Vikings stormed back and took the final three games to end the Bulldogs' season.
