VX Roundup 1/13: Chandler girls run past Mtn. View; Perry soccer upsets Hamilton

Visiting Chandler had four players score in double figures in a 77-56 win over Mountain View in a Division I matchup of title contenders.

Simone Westbrook (28), Dezirae Elias (19), Kylene Knutsen (14) and Jazmyne Bartee (11) all contributed in a balanced scoring game for the Wolves.

Armani Hawkins led the Toros with 13 points.

In other girls basketball action, visiting Dobson beat Mesquite 69-38 in Division Il, Section II. Katherine Hamilton led the Mustangs (15-5, 7-1) with 20 points, seven rebounds and seven steals. Dyesha Stahley added 19 points for Dobson. Cecily Wilson led the Wildcats with 13 points. The Mustangs are now 9-1 in power point games.

Host Red Mountain had four players in double figures as the Mountain Lions beat Skyline 68-49 in a Division I, Section II game. Gabi Alonzo finished with 20 points, Shea Brown added 15 points and 11 rebounds, Mariah Willadsen finished with 12 points and Erica Vasquez finished with 11 points. Brianna Van Hyning led the Coyotes with 13 points.

Boys Basketball

Tempe continued its surge with a 65-48 victory against Campo Verde in a Division II, Section III game. James Carrethers led the Buffaloes (15-5, 8-3 with 16 points and Nyial Watson added 15. Jimmy Renner led the Coyotes with 10 points.

Kisima Jagne led Chandler past Casa Grande, 68-60, as the senior finished with 28 points, 22 rebounds and four blocks. Daquise Gaines added 18 points for the Wolves and Patrick Baldenegro finished with 13 points and 11 rebounds. Jonathan Milligan led the Cougars with 32 points.

Host Dobson beat Mesquite 65-57 in a Division I Section II game. Kyle Tomlinson led the Mustangs with 25 points and Marcus Tipton added 22. Sami Bzai led the Wildcats with 29 points.

Lucas O'Brien led Perry past Phoenix Trevor Browne 87-69 with 26 points in a non division game. Ryan Richardson added 18 points, Jordan Howard finished with 16 points, Desmond Howard contributed 11 points and Cooper Molumby added 10 points for the Pumas (15-4).

Girls Soccer

Perry upset Hamilton, 2-1, in a Division I, Section II match. Seana Saladrigas scored the winning goal at the 35 minute mark for Perry, after Ansley Warner scored the game's opening goal early in the second half for the Pumas. McKaya Brown scored and tied the game 1-1 in the second half for the Huskies. Alicia Singleton had an assist for Perry.
