VX Roundup 12/11: Higley boys have big comeback win over Skyline

Higley's boys basketball team staged quite the comeback on Tuesday night.

Higley trailed by as many as 18 points, and came roaring back in the second half behind the play of Quinn Bailey, Mason Johnson, Evan Goreham and Terrell Clayburne for a 48-47 victory against Skyline.

Bailey had 15 points and eight rebounds. Johnson hit two big 3-pointers in the closing few minutes, and Clayburne made a clutch layup and two free throws late to complete the comeback.

Campo Verde 57, Combs 46: The Coyotes used a 25-10 fourth-quarter advantage to erase a four-point deficit and stage a big comeback. Devante Walker scored 25 points for Campo Verde (4-3) while Darius Williams added nine for the Coyotes. David Lara led Combs with 16 points and Leroy Valentine added 13.

Paradise Valley 73, Washington 38:  The Trojans led 30-20 at halftime and put the game away with a 26-point third quarter. Paul Watson and Anthony Walker both scored 14 points for P.V. (7-2) while Ryan Finley and Connor Euting each added nine.


Saguaro 68, Peoria 52

Girls Basketball

Queen Creek 65, Coolidge 18: Makaily Worthington scored 18 points, Sarah Hefington scored 10 and Mychelle Gresham added nine in the easy win for the Bulldogs.


Boys Soccer

Coronado 2, Campo Verde 1 (Saturday): The Dons won the Cactus Cup last weekend, led by goals from Miguel Gonzalez and Ruben Balverde.  Goalie Victor Perez, defender Cesar Cervantes and midfielder Jesus Garcia played key roles in winning the final.


Campo Verde 6, Apache Junction 1: Daniel Arellano scored twice and Sam Gleadle had a goal and two assists for the Coyotes. Daniel Ruelas, Luke Gleadle and Devin Ries also scored for Campo Verde.

Mesa 0, Red Mountain 0 (OT)

Girls Soccer

Red Mountain 7, Mesa 1:  Sydney Schroeder had a hat trick for the Lions in the win. Emily Maier, Stephanie Scarcello, Alexa Lorentzen, Marissa Stevens also scored for Red Mountain, while Aubrey Blau scored Mesa's goal.

Desert Ridge 11, Apache Junction 0 (Monday):  The Jaguars got goals from 11 different players in the win, led by Jessica McKeen, Shelby Mills, and Nikki Currie.

Arcadia 13, Marcos de Niza 0: Megan Hawkins found the net four times in limited minutes, pushing her total to 18 goals in eight games. Junior midfielder Maddy Schneider scored twice in the opening five minutes, and senior Anna Workman also scored twice to give her seven goals on the season. Junior Sofie DeWulf scored for the second time in successive nights, as did senior Tasha Friedman. Annie Sherman was solid at midfield on defense for the Titans (7-1).
