Phoenix Desert Vista is expected to hire Rachel Proudfoot as its girls basketball coach. The hiring is contingent on the Tempe Union High School District board’s approval, which is expected to occur today.
If approved, Proudfoot would replace Willie Young, who stepped down after two state tournament appearances in two years with the Thunder.
Proudfoot was an assistant at Gilbert Perry last season, and has also coached AAU basketball teams, as well as Chandler Hamilton and Glendale Community College in the past decade.
She’s a Tempe High graduate and played at Phoenix College for two years before spending three years in the military.
She returned to the East Valley to finish her teaching degree at Arizona State and recently received her master’s degree in secondary education.
