A couple days after disappointment, Red Mountain's softball team got back on the wagon.
With Gilbert leading 5-4 in the sixth, the Lions scored three runs and then added six more in the seventh to pull away in a 13-7 victory on Tuesday.
The Lions were led by home runs from Marian Ruf and TJ Beeson, who also added a single and a double with four RBI. Jordan Beck added three RBI and Bre Macha added three hits.
Macha pitched a complete game to earn her 4th win of the season with seven strikeouts.
Dani Nelson was the standout for Gilbert, both offensively and defensively. Nelson went 3-for-4 with four RBI and robbed Red Mountain of a couple hits defensively. Emma Ocker and Alex Astorga each had two hits.
The Lions are back in action again on Thursday against Desert Ridge at Red Mountain H.S. at 3:45 p.m.
Corona del Sol 3, Dobson 1: The Aztecs got a strong pitching performance from Nathan Bircki (three hits allowed) in the win, and took advantage of three Dobson errors.
Queen Creek 17, Apache Junction 0: Senior pitcher Jaren Holmes threw QC's second no-hitter in school history in the win on Tuesday. Holmes only threw four innings since the Bulldogs pounded out 17 runs on 19 hits in their four innings of hitting. Holmes struck out 7 of the 12 batters he faced and actually had a perfect game going until an error in the fourth.
Arcadia 12, Saguaro 1: The Titans scored three runs in the third inning and five runs in the fourth to break the game open. Brian Cunningham had four total bases and drove in three runs for Arcadia, and Alex Reynolds and Sam Huff each drove in two runs while Luke Pine earned the victory on the mound. Saguaro committed five errors on the day.
Williams Field 10, Tempe 1: Williams Field scored four in the third and seventh innings, aided by a two-run home run from sophomore Jaxxon Fagg. Wengert and Fagg combined for five hits and five RBI. Conner Mathers has reached base safely in 11 out of 12 at-bats on the season, while Hudson Whillock reached base four times including a double, triple and two RBI and Justin Vetterl pitched four innings in relief. Tempe's Osvaldo Gomez and Luis Perez each accounted for a double and scored. Tempe travels to Maricopa on Thursday, while Williams Field travels to Basha.
