TOMBSTONE — Tombstone’s worst fears of playing Chandler Valley Christian came true as the Yellowjackets were routed 47-6 Friday night.
“We came out and just didn’t maintain plays,” Tombstone coach Mike Hayhurst said. “They got a quick jump on us, and the wheels just came off.”
It started with a little more than four minutes to play in the first quarter when the Trojans scored on sophomore quarterback Jordan Morgan’s 3-yard run. Blake Argo added another touchdown run, from 5 yards out, in the first quarter and then added two more in the second on a 7-yard run by Jimmy Oum and a 30-yard touchdown pass from Morgan to Alex Hagerty. Morgan completed 6-of-10 passes for 68 yards in the win.
Valley Christian added another 219 yards on the ground.
Tthree unsportsman-ike conduct penalties were called as the game got out of hand. Twice it was called on both teams and offset, and again in the fourth quarter on the Yellowjackets.
Hayhurst said he was disappointed with how his team reacted on the field.
“We need a little more poise out there,” Hayhurst said. “There’s no excuse.”
