Three days ago Paul Long was caught by surprise when he was relieved of his duties as Horizon's boys basketball coach.
On Friday, Horizon girls basketball coach Josiah McDaniel felt the same way.
Citing the same desire to move in a different direction, McDaniel was let go as the school's coach. He'll remain a teacher at the school for the rest of this year, but on Friday he said he won't return next year.
McDaniel coached the Huskies for four years, and this year's trip to the 5A Division II state semifinals was the furthest the Huskies had gone in school history before falling to Pinnacle.
He's been a teacher at Horizon for five years, and coached the girls golf team for all five of those years, a position he resigned from last fall.
McDaniel said he didn't see his dismissal coming, but Long's departure as boys' coach earlier this week raised eyebrows among the school's coaches.
