Prep highlights: Gilbert boys down Corona in overtime

Elliot Fletcher had 21 points as Gilbert (5-1) outlasted Tempe Corona del Sol 65-63 at home in overtime Friday in a 5A Division I boys nonregion basketball game. Kevin Soliz added 10 points for the Tigers.

Leland Devlin scored 21 points and Nick Timpone contributed 14 points for the Aztecs.


Manny Sandoval had 24 points as Tempe Prep fell to Phoenix Veritas Prep 73-59 in the Phoenix Country Day School Tournament at Phoenix Country Day. Matt Mayor added 13 points for the Knights.

Earlier, Sandoval scored 22 points to help Tempe Prep knock off Westwind Prep 71-63. Michael Begley and Tre O’Neill both added 10 points for the Knights against Westwind. …

Adrian Green scored a game-high 19 points for McClintock in a 67-37 rout over Fountain Hills in the Desert Edge Classic. Devonte Thornburg added 13 for the Chargers, who advanced to today’s consolation championship. …

Westwood jumped out to a fast start to defeat visiting Casa Grande 61-43 and earn its first win of the season.

Scottsdale Christian easily handled both of its opponents in the Phoenix Country Day School Desert Classic to move into the consolation championship game at 11 a.m. today.

The Eagles (2-4) beat Westwind Prep 52-8 and defeated Phoenix Country Day 48-15.

Lena Madden had 18 points and 10 rebounds against Phoenix Country Day and Anne Munsil added 14 points. Munsil also scored seven points against Westwind Prep. …
