Chandler came into their Division I, Section I matchup with Gilbert riding high after the Wolves' first win over Hamilton in school history a week ago.

On Friday night, the Wolves played near perfect football on both sides of the ball in a 76-6 thrashing of the Tigers.

“I think our kids came out and played an up-tempo mistake free ball game. We got it going tonight and did everything pretty well.” Chandler coach Shaun Aguano said.

The Wolves (5-2) scored a touchdown on all but one offensive possession in the game. That one possession was the only big mistake Chandler made all game. Bryce Perkins pass was intercepted by Gilbert’s Fontae Canada.

“We made a mistake when our receiver slipped. I just want to make sure that fundamentally we do everything right so we are ready for the playoffs.” Perkins said.

On defense Chandler held Gilbert (1-6) in check and led 63-0 before Gilbert finally got on the board with a 4-yard touchdown run by Dylon Gillette. The lone Tiger touchdown was scored against mostly reserve players for Chandler as the Wolves emptied the bench in the third quarter.

“We try to play everybody. We have 83 guys on our roster and everybody deserves to play. It was a good team win. I am happy for those guys (reserve players), because in 120-degree weather they are practicing hard.” Perkins said.

One of those reserve players with a big game was backup quarterback Mason Moran. Moran rushed the ball six times for 133 yards and three touchdowns.

As a team Chandler rushed the ball 26 times for 422 yards with nine rushing touchdowns. DJ Ware contributed 111 yards on nine carries with two rushing touchdowns.

On the defensive side of the ball, Chandler forced four turnovers and held Gilbert to just 180 yards of total offense. The Wolves forced six plays that went for negative yardage. The lone bad spot of the game for Chandler was in penalties. The Wolves were flagged 10 times for 95 yards but it didn’t matter as a couple times after a penalty on offense Chandler would score a touchdown on the very next play. The Wolves scored four touchdowns in the first quarter alone.

For Gilbert, it doesn’t get any easier as the Tigers finish the season with Hamilton, Basha, and a matchup with Perry sandwiched in between. Gillette has had a solid season for the Tigers and he once again was a bright spot as he rushed 14 times for 66 yards and a score.
