Sunrise Mountain senior quarterback Max Shepherd narrowly won our first player of the week vote for week one of the football season.
Shepherd finished with eight votes, to best Centennial junior Jalen Ortiz and Shadow Ridge sophomore Chris Salsberry, who tied for second with seven votes.
Shepherd finished the Mustangs opener against Greenway with 156 rushing yards and three touchdowns in the 46-19 win.
The top five performers from tonight's games should be up for voting early next week.
