Mountain View wide receiver Clark Brown has surpassed 200 yards receiving each of the past two weeks and is on pace to set a 5A/Division I record for receiving yards in a season provided the Toros make the playoffs.

The star senior has 58 catches for 1,150 yards and 13 touchdowns in only eight games, and his 143.8 yards per game average is the best in Division I and the East Valley.

The Arizona Interscholastic Association lists Tucson Santa Rita's Eric Drage as the record-holder in 5A for receiving yards in a season at 1,492. However, Desert Mountain wide receiver Mark Andrews passed that number last year, finishing with 1,494 yards.

If Brown can maintain his pace, he will leapfrog both players in the first round of the Division I postseason. He is currently 345 yards away from passing Andrews' totals. He would need to average 115 yards over three games to set the record, or just 86.25 yards per game if the Toros advance to the second round.

The state record for receiving yards in a season is 1,760, set by Phoenix Greenway's Damian Segovia in 1990. Brown has an outside shot at getting there, although Goodyear Desert Edge receiver Elijah Marks (1,364 receiving yards this season) has a better shot.
