Pinnacle snuck past Prescott, 30-27, Friday night to pick up its first region win of the season in a 4A Wells Fargo matchup.
The host Pioneers (5-3, 1-2) started the game strong, recovering a Badger fumble on the opening series and scoring three plays later on a 4-yard run by Sean Spellman. Spellman finished with 57 yards on seven carries.
The second quarter belonged to Prescott (0-8, 0-3), which scored 14 points off three straight Pinnacle fumbles. Quarterback Chris Parker, who had six carries for 103 yards rushing for Prescott, scored on a 61-yard touchdown run to give the Badgers some much-needed momentum.
Tyler Regnier kept it going and ended the first-half scoring with a 1-yard touchdown run, giving Prescott a 20-9 lead.
The Pioneers didn't waste any time retaking the lead, scoring 14 points in just over a minute into the third quarter. Cyrus Igono scampered 62 yards on the first play from scrimmage to cut the lead to three.
Igono led Pinnacle with 133 yards rushing. As a team, the Pioneers rushed the ball 49 times for 276 yards.
On the ensuing drive, Erik Woods intercepted Ricky Oderfer and ran back the ball 35 yards for a touchdown. The two quick scores got the Pinnacle homecoming crowd back on its feet as the Pioneers pulled away late in the fourth. Running back Ryan Aukema bulldozed his way into the end zone from 1 yard out to push Pinnacle's lead to 10, 30-20, with just over five minutes left.
The Badgers weren't about to give up however, as Parker launched a 37-yard scoring pass to Kyle Thompson with 1:50 left. After cutting the lead to three, Prescott was unable to recover the onside kick which allowed the Pioneers to run out the clock.
Pinnacle will be on the road next week with a game at second-ranked Glendale Cactus.
