A nearly-60 percent shooting clip and a massive rebounding advantage helped No. 3 Scottsdale Christian blowout No. 14 Tuba City, 63-30, in the second round of the Division III boys basketball state tournament on Friday.
The Eagles shot 60 percent from inside the arc and held a 45-15 edge on the glass to turn a close first quarter (11-7 lead) into a 44-24 lead after three quarters.
Three players (Cavin Sherman, Sam Fillingame and Connor Segneri) led SCA with 10 points each while five others scored at least six points. Segneri added eight rebounds.
The Eagles will face No. Estrella Foothills on Monday at 1:30 p.m. at Tim's Toyota Center in Prescott Valley in the quarterfinals.
In Div. IV opening-round state tournament action, Chandler Prep got 22 points from Sam Hanson and 10 points each from Travis Farschman and David Egbo in a 69-46 "upset" win over No. 14 Pima on Friday
A 17-9 second-quarter advantage proved to be the catalyst for No. 19 Chandler Prep, which also outscored Pima 21-11 in the fourth quarter. CP advanced to the second round and a matchup against No. 3 Arizona Lutheran on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at Bradshaw Mountain H.S.
Dustin Brown led Pima with 16 points and Clancy Schmidt added 14.
