Mountain Ridge senior Michael Wagner made a statement to start off the season winning the Peaks Invitational meet in Flagstaff Saturday with a time of 17:26.2.
Wagner beat a field of runners from neighboring O’Connor High School, as well as the best of Flagstaff, Page and the Navajo and Hopi reservations.
The result may portend a breakout season for Wagner, who came in 10th at the same meet last year. Sophomore teammate Nick Dale finished 13th and the boys team placed sixth.
