03/26 - Boys volleyball roundup: Highland outplays Red Mountain

Shawn Bluth had 12 kills and four blocks as Highland defeated Red Mountain, 15-5, 2-15, 15-10, in 5A non-region boys volleyball action on Tuesday.

Cody Sunderhaus had eight kills and two blocks and Cody Mugleston added six digs and three aces for the visiting Mountain Lions (2-3). The Hawks improved to 13-1 on the year.

DESERT VISTA def. PHOENIX ST. MARY’S, 15-7, 15-6:

Chris Telles led the visiting Thunder (3-1) with nine assists and five digs as they downed the Knights in 5A non-region action.

Teammate Bryan Contreras added six digs while Billy Erickson contributed seven aces.

CHANDLER def. TEMPE, 15-8, 15-9: Grant Johansen had five blocks and five kills as the visiting Wolves (1-4) beat the Buffaloes in non-conference play.

Ray Lee added six kills and Tyler Kraemer had five for Chandler.

MARCOS DE NIZA def. WESTWOOD, 15-11, 15-5: Alen Kocic had five kills and seven digs in a losing effort as the host Padres (5-0) downed the Warriors (2-3) in a non-region matchup.

Scott Ritchins added seven kills for Westwood.

CORONA DEL SOL def. HAMILTON 15-6, 15-8: Josh Book had six kills and 11 digs to lead the host Aztecs (3-2) over the Huskies in 5A non-region play.

MESA def. GLENDALE MOUNTAIN RIDGE, 15-4, 15-6:

The host Jackrabbits (2-3) had little trouble with the Mountain Lions in a 5A non-region match.

Eric Komenda and Tyler Shumway had four kills apiece, while Jake Richardson had eight digs and Stephen Flake finished with 14 assists to lead the Jackrabbits.

PHOENIX BROPHY def. MOUNTAIN VIEW, 15-8, 15-5: In a 5A non-region game the Broncos were too much for the Toros (1-3). Tanner Crandell had six kills, while teammate Jantzen Sperry finished with four to lead the Toros.

MOUNTAIN POINTE def. DOBSON, 15-4, 15-10: Brandon Ratliff led the host Pride (5-0) over the Mustangs (3-2) in non-region action with five kills, four aces and four blocks. Steve Turner led the Mustangs with eight kills and eight blocks in a 5A nonregion contest.

GILBERT def. SKYLINE, 15-8, 15-3: Dustin Kereluk had 13 blocks but the host Coyotes (0-5) fell to the Tigers in 5A non-region play.

GLENDALE DEER VALLEY def. MESQUITE, 15-7, 15-12:

Dason Hatch had six kills for the visiting Wildcats (3-2) as they suffered a loss to the Skyhawks in 5A non-region action.
