The Mountain Pointe boys basketball program will be headed up by Aaron Windler, two sources confirmed Friday afternoon.
Mountain Pointe athletic director Ian Moses wouldn’t comment, preferring to wait until the announcement on Monday.
Windler resigned from his post at Chaparral before the 2011-2012 season, reportedly because of a situation with the parents. He was 60-28 in three seasons at Chaparral.
Others that interviewed and impressed were Pride assistant coach Hosea Graham, Goodyear Desert Edge coach Joe Babinski and Fountain Hills coach Matt Johnson. But Windler had a great interview and had a letter of recommendation from Arizona State coach Herb Sendek.
The ringing endorsement by Sendek opened the administration’s eyes but then once they sat down with Windler there was no doubt.
One source said they would have been happy with any of the top four, but Windler stood out. He is expected to meet the players Monday, if not sooner.
