Troy Powell has been chosen as Westwood's new boys basketball coach, athletic director Reggie Castro said.
Powell has a 139-60 record since 2006-07 and has led the Bulldogs to three 3A state semifinal appearances in that span.
"His track record - he's been very successful down there," Castro said. "He got a lot of good references from people who have coached against him and coached with him. He's very impressive."
Powell will replace Hosea Graham, who resigned to take the Mountain Pointe vacancy. The Warriors went 10-17 under Graham last year in his only season at the helm.
Paul Wilson coached Westwood in 2010-11, which makes Powell the program's third varsity coach in three years. Castro said finding stability was a big factor in choosing Powell.
"That was a big sell for him," Castro said. "That's what he wants to do. He was successful in the smaller ranks and now wants to try something different."
