J.J. Husar had a visiting jersey on this time, but he was still right at home.

The senior running back/defensive back led the Basha football team in rushing last season but transferred to Desert Ridge after the 2011 season.

He returned to his former school with the No. 5-ranked Jaguars on Friday night and was a one-man wrecking crew in a 48-28 victory over the No. 8 Bears.

Husar carried the ball 19 times for 250 yards and two touchdowns, caught a 48-yard touchdown pass, forced a fumble which saved a touchdown and had an interception in the end zone.

“"Who knows what else he had?”" Desert Ridge coach Jeremy Hathcock said. "“He was awesome tonight.”"

Both of Husar’'s big defensive plays came in the first half, and Basha also lost another fumble inside the 10-yard line before intermission.

The mistakes put the Bears in a 13-0 halftime hole, and while they showed some life in the second half, could never get closer than two possessions.

Basha trailed 27-14 early in the fourth quarter but turned the ball over on downs in Desert Ridge territory and the Jaguars pulled away. Basha coach Bernie Busken said the first-half mistakes were too much to overcome.

“"When you play against a good team, you can’'t do that,"” he said.

Desert Ridge carried the ball 55 times for 471 yards. Tarek Morrison ran for 91 yards and also gashed the Bears with play-action passes. He finished 5 of 9 for 161 yards with three touchdowns, and all three scores came on passes to wide open receivers.

Manny Figueroa was the recipient of two of them, finishing with three catches for 111 yards.

Basha running back Rajhan Meriwether had 19 carries for 155 yards and a touchdown, but lost the two crucial fumbles. Quarterback Zach Werlinger was 1 of 8 for nine yards with an interception in the first half and finished 16-of-33 for 254 yards with three scores, although two of them came long after the outcome had been decided.

Both sides were agitated after the game.

Hathcock was unhappy at alleged comments directed at his players by Basha assistant coaches during the game.

The Jaguars subsequently danced in the Basha end zone after the contest and then moved close to the Bears as they walked off the field, which drew ire on Basha's side.

Hathcock had trouble talking about the actual game afterward.

"“Sorry guys, I'’m a little fired up,"” he said.

Busken said he and Hathcock didn’'t talk afterward so he wasn'’t sure what to make of the complaints.

"“I just think maybe both groups were excited,”" Busken said.
